Student Accountability

Sixth graders are held responsible for their academic progress and their behavioral choices. They should be continually developing in competence and self-sufficiency. There may be some "bumps in the road" toward independence, but sixth grade is meant to be a transition out of the elementary setting. Students who "meet the standard" will enjoy a small reward or brief activity on alternating Fridays.

Homework

Students who make responsible use out of their class work time will have minimal homework. Independent reading is an exception. Students should work to establish a daily, 15 minute, before-bedtime reading habit. Independent reading is part of the Reading/Language Arts grade.

Fun/Friends/Challenges

Sixth grade should be a year of physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. A wide variety of experiences await this year's sixth graders.

Field Trips and Fun

There will be several field trips throughout the sixth grade year. While individual trip costs will vary, parents are asked to budget approximately $60.00 for the year’s trips. These are some field trips taken last year.
  • Elroy/Sparta Bike Trail (early October)
  • Tubing/Ski Hill (winter)
  • Medieval Days Activities
  • Waterpark (end of the year)

School Fun

These are some additional fun events that sixth graders can look forward to:
  • Juggling and Classic Games (a part of “Extensions” Class)
  • “Payday” Activities-The alternating Friday reward for students meeting the responsibility/behavior standard.
  • Sixth Grade After School Activity Night
